Gramoxone herbicide, Ortho-Paraquat, Para-SHOT, Parazone, Quick-Quat, Firestorm, Blanco, Bonfire Herbicide, Devour, and Helmquat are all aliases of manufacturer Syngenta’s weed killer. However, whether you know it as Gramoxone or Paraquat, the weed killer is actually banned or restricted in over 30 countries but remains one of the most popular commercial herbicides across the world.
What is the link between Paraquat and Parkinson’s Disease?
There have been concerns surrounding Paraquat Syngenta for several years. However, studies as early as 2009 have linked direct exposure to the toxic chemical found in Paraquat to cause neurological damage which may lead to Parkinson’s Disease. Studies in the years that followed further confirmed the link to neurological illness, with the Unified Parkinson’s Advocacy Council urging the EPA to end the use of Paraquat in July of 2017.
